A survey asks if middle school is too early to start preparing students for college. I believe the earlier you start preparing your child for college, the more prepared they will be. In fact, I believe preparation should start even earlier than middle school. What does early preparation look like? Reading extra books to build upon vocabulary, and practicing solving math problems even when there no assigned homework. Encourage your child to speak up in the classroom and ask questions. Exposing your child to cultural pursuits and extracurricular activities helps the student develop a well rounded mind-set. Starting college preparation early helps children develop good study habits, listening skills, and interpersonal skills. The earlier you begin college preparations, the more likely your child will enroll in honors level or advanced placement courses in high school. Increase your child’s chances of college acceptance by instilling good educational values.
